im still lovin' this kid, especially this one (how a 12 year old wrote this boggles my mind):
ELITE 2010
well, this long weekend went by uber fast, and i lamely nerded it out at UBC from friday to sunday with ELITE..scratch that, i inhabited UBC for the past couple weeks because of Elite, so i guess it wasnt something that was too out of the blue. as i seemed to tell like everyone (since i was quite proud of myself) i survived the weekend with 3 hours of sleep, pulled my FIRST all nighter and was pretty much running on many Red Bulls and Red Bulls shots (those mofos are LETHAL..i legit thought my heart was going to die.) the weekend consisted of making sure the conference went smoothly, thinking quickly and making sure the kids had fun.
Friday: kids came to UBC, some keeners came like 30 minutes before they shouldve..which should be expected since its a leadership conference. UBC Housing is lame and totally rearranged the room keys and room assignment, which caused distribution of keys to take wayyyyyyy longer than it shouldve. (kudos to Elissia for not exploding from stress with that issue). kids had fun meeting each other, eating their hearts out at the BBQ, as well as watching movies til midnight. sleep? the kids, yes. the leaders, probs not since making sure all kids remained on their floor was a must. Execs..yeah not sleep at all! pulled an all nighter doing last minute final touches to workshops and slideshows for the next day. our brains fail to functions at 5am. passed out in the Commonsblock at Vanier..i tried to but couldnt since some Execs love talking while everyone tries falling asleep and snores when they finally do fall asleep!!
Saturday: day started at 6am, kids had mandatory yoga at 7am..and almost all of them went. i peaced yoga, and instead took a longgggggggggggggggggggg shower, trying to keep myself awake!! the kids had workshops all day, which they really enjoyed! Rick Bains was one of the speakers again this year, and the kids absolutely LOVED him. that man knows how to speak! Amir Javid was another speaker, with VERY controversial topics to speak of..some that we may not have realized he would discuss and had to tone down after doing his first workshop. pizza lunch. more workshops. kids had 1.5 hours to get ready for dinner and dance. dinner at 7:30 I house. dinner was a bit of a nightmare, since there were so many kids to control, and obvs all were hungry. so making sure control was kept at that time was hard. some volunteers seemed to be not so helpful as well, especially when it came to being considerate. students should eat before volunteers, since they are paying to be at the conference. but i guess there will always be those few *face palm* volunteers every year at Elite. kids fed, went Ladha for the dance. us few volunteers remained at I house cleaning the building up..i <3 Shane for singing and bringing up our low spirits at times of need!! with only 20 minutes of the dance left, we brown style packed into a family Caravan, 10 people in all. 3 people in the trunk, with the trunk open and the remaining sitting legally!! 20 minutes of dancing the night away (Ladha looked like an actual club!!) and belting out to Journey (which the h.s. kids did not understand..they lack the whole Dont Stop Believing lovin that us older peeps understand!) ended off our night with the kids. when i should have slept, i instead found my inner brown chick but chillin with the brown leaders, playing brown card games and just being brown in general. bed time 3:30am..
Sunday: wake up at 7am. zombie hcore. Mother Nature decided to be a biatch by raining on the ONE day we needed it to be sunny. Amazing Race was cancelled, adn instead extra workshops were held. lunch of Subway was given, which was a bit of a hiccup. more workshops. closing ceremonies. good byes. SLEEP!
no joke, this weekend was so tiring. too many energy drinks, running around and at times hcore stress. but i must say, well done to the co-chairs of organizing it! first time making Elite 3 days, 2 nights made for more challenges, but we overcome them all. i wont forget all the awesome people i met this year (even though i knew so many already from last years Elite). after having students come up to us saying how much they loved the conference gives motivation to continue the Elite legacy..and apparently the co-chairs have already started some random planning for Elite 2011. all in all, a really good weekend!!

food + Mirage + ELITE
yes, i've been too lazy to blog..hence the gazillion quotes as posts. life has been pretty damn chill. finally catching up in all the lost time with my friends, chillin with "ma boys" and with the best lady. already had a White Rock/ Crescent drive, and its only been 2 weeks into summer!! ive tried some new places to eat because of -ushi, since we love food: Antons = nomalicious, cheap, and HUGE ASS portions..way too many good things all in one place. pasta, carbs, cheese..mmmm!!; also Burgoo..gosh best mac and cheese i've had in a LONG while. we hit up Burgoo for the whole Dine Out Vancouver dealio, but that was a fail since we weren't satisfied with the Dine Out menu and had to get some other yums instead!! in general, we failed with the Dine Out concept..that made me sad. yeah, i'm a foodie, i love eating, and love cooking, and love hunting down good restaurants, following up on great reviews, and just spending all the money i have in making my stomach feel great..don't judge. that's probs one of the major things that brings the frushi love together.. food dates!!
so i was a Mirage virgin until a few weeks ago. Rach and I were in desperate need of dancing away our finals sorrows, and thought that a cheap fix would be hitting up Mirage, sans the boys (yes that made me feel hcore vulnerable, not having 6 boys around me for protection!). and i had a legit good time. clean fun with my best lady friend, protecting each other from disgusting creeps (with a bit of help from JV), making sure no man handling was permitted, and just belting out to some top 40 guilty pleasures!!
this weekend is going to be brutal. one of the events a club i'm part of organizes is the UBC Elite Conference for LG's and LB's (jkjk!), trying to promote leadership within the youth in high schools throughout the lower mainland. this year we did super well, having registration reach capacity, and actually having to turn kids away, with 195 students coming this year!! (kudos to Aman and Sumeet!) this weekend will consist of running around, making sure everything goes as planned (and luckily not having to worry about taking care of 10 students) and focusing on the logistics of the event. i'm lamely stoked on life for it, bringing back my SC nerd ways, and just using all leadership skills i have gained in general this weekend, from Friday to Sunday. i KNOW i wont be getting much sleep, since the nights will be spent making sure kids remain in their rooms/ floors/ in the residence (luckily Red Bull was a sponsor and will be supplying a LOT of energy drinks!!), but being able to volunteer again with the FABULOUS leaders i met last year, and reuniting the "Elite fam bam" will be so much fun! i'm not looking forward to Sunday night though, when its all over, my body running and pretty much nothing, then having to go straight back to Surrey to a cousins wedding shower..oh Sunday will be some good times..
anyways, that's a boring update on my life. May 31st school starts all over again. so from now til then, i shall be majorly enjoying the free time i have, spending it with my fam and besties, and relaxing the brain until hell begins again. yay life..
Shiny Happy People
Ask most people what they want out of life and the answer is simple - to be happy. Maybe it's this expectation though of wanting to be happy that just keeps us from ever getting there. Maybe the more we try to will ourselves to state's of bliss, the more confused we get - to the point where we don't recognize ourselves. Instead we just keep smiling - trying to be the happy people we wish we were. Until it eventually hits us, it's been there all along. Not in our dreams or our hopes but in the known, the comfortable, the familiar.
No matter how thick-skinned we try to be,
there’s a million electrifying nerve endings in there.
Open and exposed and feeling way too much.
Try as we might from feeling pain.
Sometimes it’s just unavoidable.
Sometimes, that’s the only thing left: feeling.
the Kite Runner
after looking through the books i have, i came across this gem (which a lot of people i know werent a fan of since they didnt like the writing style of the book). it was one of those novels we had to read in high school and i loved every bit of it. so touching, so heart breaking, but so many lessons to be learned from it. and after all that has been happening in my life right now, i thought this was the most fitting quote. i think everyone, even myself, can learn something from these fews lines of the Kite Runner.
There is only one sin, only one. And that is theft. Every other sin is a variation of theft. Do you understand that? When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife’s right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone’s right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness. Do you see?

Somedays aren't yours at all,
They come and go
As if they're someone else's days
They come and leave you behind someone else's face
And it's harsher than yours
And colder than yours

facebook/ msn/ texting
so, i love these things, dont get me wrong. im "good at facebook," im always set as away on msn but im always online available for the harassing, and texting is a genius invention in itself. but when it comes to those more personal conversations, none of these are suffice. if you want to appologize to someone, doing so on msn just doesnt seem like it has as great of an effect. breaking up with someone via facebook is a douche move, and texting someone you love them for the first time is just so wussy-ish. but whats annoying is that so many people have lacked the ability to do ALLLL of these in the "old fashioned" ways, ie calling them or actually doing so in person. i have luckily still maintained my ability of verbally communicating with people, but tons haven't. so as one of those few who still has the balls to verbally speak to someone about awkward/cute/shitty situations, whats even more annoying is that people prefer the easy way out. "lets talk on msn" is probs the STUPIDEST thing to say, when the message can be relayed in a much more efficient and less time consuming manner. and when you try calling someone, they NEVER answer theyre phone. goshhhhhh. wadafack? yeah the situation may be more awkward, and yes it can be traumatizing, but it think it shows that you care more, that you are willing to put more effort into the dealio, rather than just using your fingers to type a few words. i dunno, random thought.
p.s. today i realized, when it comes to boys, im such a fuck up.
